Sri Lankan Team Meeting

The Sri Lankan Team meets every morning just after breakfast for a planning session in which we discuss the games of the last round and then the plan for the day.  This is then followed by opening preperation for each player.

Anuruddha draws with International Master Orsag Milan to bring our mens section score to 1 point.

Methmalee records her first win

Methmalee scored a win to now tie with Finland.  There is one game remaining

Udith draws his game with IM Salov Sergey, Iridu draws as well

Udith brings in half a point with a very strong player and now we are .5 to 1.5 down in the mens section as well as the womens section.  Sachini and Chamika both lost.  The Grandmaster who beat Chamika was a second of Boris Gelfand in the recent world championship match agaist Anand.    

Dinushki wins and Sri Lanka records 4-0

Dinushki is now 1.5 points out of two rounds and the Sri Lankan team has recorded its first 4-0 win.  The womens team now meet one of the top teams tommorow.  Dulan lost his match and now our mens score is 2.5 - 1.5 against south korea

Iridu scores her first win

Iridu scores a first win to also record the first win for the Sri Lankan womens team.  She now has a 100% score, since she was rested on the last round. Both our teams have won today. 

Udith takes a draw to ensure the mens team wins

Udith takes  draw to ensure that the Sri Lankan team wins its first match of the olympiad.  Now the score is 2.5.  .5 on our favour.  The team now gets a point.

Anuruddha wins

Good day for Sri Lanka Anuruddha also records his first win and now the score is 2-0 for us in both the mens and the womens

Anuththara wins

Anuththara scored the third win today for Sri Lanka now we are 2-0 on the womens against Yemen and 1-0 on the mens teams against South Korea.  Anuththara playing in her first olympiad now has 1.5 points in two rounds 

Chamika scores first win in the mens section

Chamika records the first win of the mens team against south korea.  Todays scores are now 1-0 and  1-0 against Yemen and South Korea. Chamika has 1.5 points from two rounds.

Sachini records first win for Sri Lanka

Sachini won her game and now the score against Yemen is 1-0,  this is the first win for Sri Lanka at the Olympiad

Dinushiki draws her game with a player over 300 rating points higher than her

Dinushki was one of the last players to finish and had a draw with a very strong player, Normally the first round is with a very strong team and we have done well as a team to score one point against Argentina.

Anuththara draws with a player 400 rating points above her

Anuththara played really well to draw with Fernandez Maria Florenda from Argentina who has the rating of 2160. This is so many rating points higher than Anuthara's rating of 1731.  The team is playing well

Breaking news First Result out Chamika draws with GM

The first person out of the playing hall was Chamika after a draw with Jumabayev Rinat a GM with 2525 rating.  Sachini played well with Amura Claudia WGM 2351 but did a mistake at the end.  The others are still playing.

All smiles after airport issues are sorted out

The Sri Lankan team  arrived at Istanbul and the players are now rested and ready for the first round.  The flight out of colombo got delayed and we missed the connecting flights but managed to get their just 5 hours later than the original time.  The team will have a planning session in the morning the rounds will start at 3pm.

Sri Lankan Team Travels to Chess Olympiad

The Sri Lankan chess team  will leave for the chess olympiad on flight FZ-556 depating at 4:50am on 27th August from Colombo. The team is expected at the Airport the latest at 1:45am on 27th August

There is a stop over in Dubai and another flight FZ751 which reaches Istanbul Sabiha Airport at 12:45 on the same day.  There is a 60Km travel from the Airport to the Hotel Holiday Inn Instanbul.
